How to Make Your Stress A Lot Less

Living in today’s society, it can be easy for someone to feel stressed or anxious. In fact, it has almost become normal for people to take anti-anxiety drugs like xanax or ativan just to get through the day. It almost seems as if society as a whole has just accepted this reality of stress and anxiety as “normal” and a part of our everyday lives. It has almost become an epidemic. But I ask you why? Why have we passively sat back and let this stressful energy take over? No, it’s not normal (whatever that even means), and we shouldn’t run our lives the way it is.

The good news is that you can be proactive about your stress level, and you’ll be surprised how simple it really is. After 21 days of doing some of these techniques, you will have rewired your brain and then it will become your way of life. However, before trying any of these techniques, there is an important step to take. You need to stop what you are doing and make the decision that you are no longer going to accept stress in your life and really say so. Say it out loud a few times if it helps.

Set a clear intention that you will be at peace and present in every beautiful moment. Please do not underestimate the importance of this step because by setting a clear intention you are placing an order with the universe. The universe can’t bring you something unless you say what you want, and it will be. Then use some or all of these techniques and I guarantee your stress will be much less!

– Laugh. Research shows that laughter can stimulate the movement of blood in the heart and lungs. Laughter is thought to boost disease-fighting antibodies by releasing stress-fighting hormones.

– Music: Listening to soothing music can help reduce anxiety and relax muscles. It also releases endorphins in the body. So listening to your iPod can be very therapeutic!

– Nature: Go outdoors or in nature at least once a day, observe the beauty around you and the simple things like the weather or the sounds you hear. By doing this, you take your mind off whatever is stressing you out at the moment and focusing on the simple things helps you realize that in the grand scheme of life, it really isn’t that important.

– Meditation: Meditation is one of the best stress relievers out there. By making meditation a regular part of your schedule, you’ll feel an overall sense of peace and well-being, and future stressors will just roll off your back without being able to affect you. Also, doing just one 10-minute meditation is equivalent to taking a 2-hour nap. You do the math!

– Rehydrate: go get a big cup or a bottle of water. Most of us don’t drink enough water, and all organs, including the brain, rely heavily on water to function properly. This is how we are built. If you starve your body of water, you will perform below your best and become stressed.

– Environment: If you are constantly in a stressful environment or around other people who are always stressed, it certainly won’t help your stress levels. Make a conscious effort to surround yourself only with other people who have their stress levels under control. Obviously, there are some situations where you don’t have a choice in the matter, but if you take those people with whom you do have a choice to a minimum, you will almost immediately feel the calming effects throughout your life.

– Yoga: Yoga is an excellent technique to relieve stress. It involves a series of moving and stationary postures, combined with deep breathing. The physical and mental benefits of yoga provide a natural counterbalance to stress and strengthen the relaxation response in your daily life.

– Journaling: There’s nothing like writing down all your thoughts, ideas, to-do lists and errands (etc.) ON PAPER to clear your mind of excess clutter. Organizing your endless ideas and lists into categories that you can refer to later will instill a sense of calm every time.

– EFT: Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an alternative healing modality that releases a person’s emotions by touching various places on the body while saying positive affirmations. This is a great technique to use when you’re in the throes of stress; it’s fast, easy and the results are immediate.

– Bach flowers: Bach flowers are dilutions of floral “essences” developed by Dr. Edward Bach. There are 38 different remedies, each treating a specific emotional or psychological problem. The rescue remedy of Dr. Bach is the best remedy for stress. All you do is put 3-5 drops under your tongue several times a day and you are sure to see a reduction in your stress level in no time.
